Report Summary
The final analysis demonstrated that Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) significantly improved upper limb motor recovery (as measured by FMA-UE) and motor functional abilities (as measured by WMFT) compared to standard rehabilitation alone in patients with acute and subacute stroke. Subgroup analyses revealed that the benefits of FES were consistent across all age groups, genders, stroke types, and hemiparetic sides, with particularly notable improvements observed in patients aged 51–70 and those with ischemic stroke. Although significant within-group improvements in activities of daily living (MBI) were found, no significant between-group differences were observed, indicating the potential need for longer or combined interventions to influence broader functional outcomes. The study supports the clinical value of FES and highlights its potential for wide application in post-stroke rehabilitation.
